Problem is that the game crashes. When the Thriddle Seer sends you to scout about the size of the Cleash army, you're supposed to go to the General and there's thousands of Cleash on that screen. But when you bump into any of the Cleesh to start a fight or even if you bump into the General to ask about the size of the army, the game crashes. Checked all kinds of settings. Version infos: I usually a version 0.63 DOSBox, but I tried the latest one and a version 0.65 too; neither worked. The game is version 1.00 and uses version 1.96 DOS/4GW. Any help with really be appreciated, so please and thank you in advanced. Newbie Posts: 25 Joined: 2005-7-21 @ 01:13. You're playing one of the most fickle games I've EVER come accross. Unless you play it on a 486, the game is totally off on speed. In Dosbox, its impossible to set the correct amount of cycles because some parts will be jerky while others will be super fast. Question with these kind of errors is always: is it a bug in the game or in Dosbox? I've known quite a few games that crashed because of a bug that crept into the savegame file. It may even be a corrupted file on your hard drive so try reinstalling the game. Oldbie Posts: 833 Joined: 2004-4-12 @ 13:24. But you're right, this game's really difficult to get working. I acctounally wouldn't mind setting a regular configuration, and one configuration with a really high number of cycles, that's the first thing that I tried, D-fend uses 20,000 as the default max (though it lets you go higher than that), so I didn't try running any higher. I'll try reinstalling, hopefully it will fix the problem, it seems like the best solution with the least amount of work that might actually work. Thanks for the tips, red_avatar Edit: Sorry, none of these worked 100%. I tried all the cores, and cycles 40,000, 80,000, and 200,000. Not even reinstalling helped, so I'm worried it probably is a corrupt savefile. Though the game works besides that so far. I'm gunna try to see if this part of the game has a way to get through it without having to talk to anyone on the screen. I'm also thinking that possibly it crashes at random. I was able to talk to one of the Cleash, who gave the info I needed away, but as soon as the fight scene started (which was unevitable, because it was the only option), the game crashed. Another time, I was fully capable of interrogating an artifact hunter that was on the screen. But when I tried again and no luck. The crash is simply that the game uses the hourglass cursor, appears frozen, and if you press any key on the keyboard, the game boots you out of DOSBox. Newbie Posts: 25 Joined: 2005-7-21 @ 01:13. Thanks for all the possibilities and responces, guys. I'm sorry I hadn't replied in such a long while. Anyways, I've tried both the patch and the updated DOS4GW extender (thanks, eL_PuSHeR and richard.broadhurst). But I didn't get any result form them. I maintain that the problem is a deal of 'too many sprites on one screen' therefore possibly dealing with RAM, explaining the slowness. Then the locking up and exitting might be just that the computer can't deal with the switch from hundreds of sprites to just one or two (for the close-up of the Cleash or artifact hunter talking), not sure if letters count. So it might not be something that either could take care of. --- Richard, I just use the Wizard on D-Fend and edit a few things. Type: Name: Alien Logic Game File: C: ALIEN ALIEN.EXE Setup: D: INSTALL.EXE Default on everything else. Then I use the profile editor to change a few things: General -> Resolution: 640x480 Environment -> Cyles: 7250 Mounting -> Edit D: -> Mount Type: CDROM, check Enable I/O control. Then I go to the folder where D-Fend keeps it's confs (normally C: D-fend Confs), copy Alien Logic.conf to my Alien Logic DOSBOX folder (C: Alien DOSBOX), rename the conf file to dosbox.conf. Copy dosbox.exe, libogg-0.dll, libvorbis-0.dll, libvorbisfile-3.dll, SDL.dll, and SDL_net.dll to that folder too. Use notepad to change a few things. - Change captures to 'captures=capture' - Change the info after the mountings to: cd C: ALIEN C: ALIEN.EXE exit Create Shortcut of DOSBOX.EXE, rename to 'SkyRealms of Jorune - Alien Logic' and paste into the right folder in the start menu. If you want an exact copy of the conf, I could make it for you later and attach to the topic. Newbie Posts: 25 Joined: 2005-7-21 @ 01:13. Hello, Not sure if anyone ever got this fix. But I found this information on a Walkthrough site. Do not - repeat, DO NOT!! - visit the ruins at 214,187 (the Crossroads) until Salrough tells you about them. If you explore these ruins before he tells you about them, the game will crash later on when you try talking to the Cleash general. This is fatal, as you must speak to him to set other events further in the game. So stay away until you hear of them from Salrough. Newbie Posts: 1 Joined: 2008-3-13 @ 18:51. Thanks Devonicus. I already knew that but thanks for the reminder. The game's pretty non-linear, through the right sequence of events and cheats, it's pretty easy to shave a few days of work from the game (I don't suggest it though, because like you said, there's at least that bug and it gets rid of the fun really. It's best just to do things as Salrough tells you because getting lost is pretty easy in this game.) I do have a theory that it's actually the rending method that is messing up the game and not the speed. My supporting statement is 'If DOS can do it, why not DOSBox?' Because I have a firm belief that DOSBox is like DOS+, but anyways, I'm gunna try to set the rendering to DirectDraw, it helped with a problem where the palette got messed up, it will probably help with this. Wish me luck guys P.S: I haven't had the time to actually use the computer and won't get to try it until I get better because I messed up my leg. Newbie Posts: 25 Joined: 2005-7-21 @ 01:13. Thank youHello, thank you for responding The mount that I use, I mostly generated using the original D-Fend, but I might've tweaked it a bit too (not sure). Using D-Fend, the options where: Mount Type: CDROM Select Drive/CDROM/Image or floppy to mount: D: (Replace D with your CD-ROM drive letter) Drive label: [Checked] Enable Input/Output (recommended for WinXP/2K/NT4) Mounted drive letter: D (replace with the letter that you configured with) In command prompt, this looks like.
